Very Good. Travis & Rainey. Another wonderful Jodi Thomas story. This is a book about overcoming the obstacles from the past that keep us from living life to the fullest. Rainey has had a very difficult life but finally gets away from her very abusive father. Wanting to get as far away as she can, she goes to Texas. There she meets one of three Texas Ranger brothers, Travis, as she is attempting to "borrow" his horse. Travis believes he has fallen in love with her right from the beginning , but Rainey has her past getting in the way. This is a wonderful love story. Somewhat sensual, some violence. This is well worth reading

We Texas Ranger Travis McMurray meets Molly (aka Rainey Adams) she steals a Kiss and his horse. While he looks for the little thief he helps a group of Germans travelling and runs into renegades. Travis is injured and taken to his family's Whispering Mountain Ranch to recover. Rainey ends up in Austin she writes Travis to apologize for stealing his horse. With the letters they write each other he begins to recover. He reads Rainey may be in danger so he rides to Austin to find and save her. This is my first book to read by Jodi Thomas I enjoyed it and will read more of her books.

This story takes place prior to the Civil War (1854) in Texas. Whispering Mountain Ranch has 3 sons, a daughter and a housekeeper. Eldest brother Travis McMurray is a Texas Ranger and has been away from home for about 2 years and he's on his way home. Travis meets a woman, who brazenly kisses him at a barn dance.Rainey Adams is running away from her father - and a marriage she doesn't want. Meeting Travis at a local barn dance, she steals one of his horses, to continue her journey away from her hated father.Rainey writes a letter to Travis, telling him how sorry she was for stealing his horse. In the meantime, Travis was severely injured while helping some immigrants travel over a dangerous area of Texas. Rainey's letters help him tolerate the months of recuperation on the ranch.Rainey and Travis learn much about each other through their letters; love starts to grow between them. In one of their letters, Travis realizes Rainey is in danger and goes to Austin - even though he isn't really well enough to travel.Travis has been a Ranger for about 10 years and has many enemies to show for his efforts. Some of the worst of those enemies come to call.There's lots of action in this tale and the pacing is excellent. Both main characters are likeable and engaging. 4 stars.

I've read this book before and loved it, reading it again after a year or two thrilled me again. This author knows how to keep the reader interested and glued to the pages. There was love and excitement, kidnapping, murder and horse theft and so much more. I don't want to give the story away, but I know that you will love anything Jodi Thomas writes. She is one of the best Western, specifically Texas storytellers.

I very much liked this book. The Characters were believable and easy to like. Historical American West Romance. Lots of Adventure and even laughs. Now I'm ready to read the next book in this series. This book is stand alone, but you will want to read more about this Whispering Mountain family.

The main romantic plot is great and worth reading. The writing is solid, the characters are layered, but the subplots just aren't that interesting. Specifically, the subplots are snoozers. I skimmed A LOT of stuff that was just happening. It felt to me like the author padded a good romantic plot with a bunch of stuff because she had to make her word count, but if she'd cut all the subplots about pies and whores and kooky boarding house customers, the story would have made a fantastic novella.My favorite part was the section where the hero and heroine open up to each other through letters, writing personal things they never would have said out loud to each other in person.

This was a suspensful and exciting romance novel. I absolutely loooved the hero. My only complaint is the same for every one of Jodi's books. Lotsa foreplay and the ends are always a little anticlimactic for me. She always seems to get bored with the story after the hero saves the day and it just Peter's out. But good all the same.
